Jazz Concert Raises Funds For 2006 Campaign

Jazz music lovers and supporters of the United Way of St. Thomas – St. John feasted royally at the concert held on Saturday, January 21st at Reichhold Center. Stellar performances by Dianne Reeves, Ron Blake and the Reuben Rogers Group, are still the talk of the town. The concert would not have been possible without our “Super Sponsors”: West Indian Company, Subway, GAS Insurance Services and Guardian Insurance. Special thanks to Marriott Frenchman’s Reef, Forever Flowers, 5 Star Limo Service, Avis Car Rental, Bailey & Sons, Nesbitt Cabinet Shop, Steel Plus Supplies, and DeSigns. More thanks to Café Amalia, Petite Pump Room, Roses Too, Hubert Raimer, Luis Ible. We sincerely thank all play bill advertisers and media sponsors. Most of all, we thank President Raymond Green. Great Job!

IMPACTING LIVES IN OUR COMMUNITY

United Way agencies are here to help residents of the St.Thomas – St. John community
offering services and assistance year-round!

DIAL–A–RIDE ST. THOMAS

A St. Thomas resident, who works for a large employer, was leaving the island and needed to arrange meals and transportation for her father. She remembered Dial-A-Ride from a campaign presentation at her job, and came to the office of Dial-A-Ride STT for help. When she saw the United Way participating agency sign displayed above the door, Rosemary Sumas, Executive Director, verified that they are a United Way funded agency. The young woman said, “It is great to know where my dollars contributed by payroll deduction are going.” She asked to arrange transportation services for her father so he would have meals, visits to his office and return home five days per week. Rosemary Sumas encourages those in need to register their loved ones with Dial-A-Ride. Call: 776-1277 A Road Assessment will be conducted to assure that the vehicle can reach the client for the curb-to-curb service. Proof of a physician verification form is required. In the event of an occurrence en route during transport, caretakers will know the instructions for emergency procedures, if needed.

Dates to Remember!
Salute to Virgin Islands Police Department and Officer Allen Haynes
Hats off to Coordinator Elaine Pratt and Sharon Joseph of VIPD, who raised more than $6,000 in payroll deductions, and a total of $9,000 this year; more than three times the contributions from last year. The single largest contribution comes from Officer Allen Haynes, known to all as very generous and gifted in healing massage. Mr. Haynes contacted Ms. Joseph to deliver his check for $2,000. Haynes says he gave so generously because he is fully aware of the benefits that United Way agencies provide to our community. We are very grateful to the fine officers and staff of the Virgin Islands Police Department.

WE ARE “WIRED” THANKS TO ACKLEY COMMUNICATIONS!
Jennifer and Gordon Ackley donated high speed and broadband e-mail service to our office. It has made our operation and communication more efficient. A million thanks!
