YOUR UNITED WAY NEWS
Volume 1, Number 1 April 2005 A quarterly publication of the United Way of St. Thomas-St. John • 340-774-3185
IMPORTANT FACTS About Your
Gifts To The United Way

FACT: Your gifts help support human service agencies with proven service records of excellence to provide food, clothing, shelter, programs and services for the youth, seniors, the disabled, and other residents and visitors in the St. Thomas and St. John districts.

FACT: All monies that you contribute stay right here and are spent only in support of agencies in St. Thomas and St. John.

FACT: United Way St. Thomas/St. John maintains low administrative costs, at or below 20%, to make sure our agencies benefit most from your dollars.

FACT: All agencies that qualify for United Way funding complete a rigorous selection process, and are audited continuously to ensure that your gifts are serving the community.

FACT: We have all benefited from disaster relief services from participating United Way agencies after hurricanes, fires or other

losses. When you give to United Way, a helping hand will be there when you or your loved ones are in need. United Way thanks all contributors and volunteers! Visit our website www.unitedway.vi for the list of agencies currently supported by United Way of St. Thomas/St. John and for upcoming events and updates.
LEVELS OF GIVING
United Currently United Way offers donors two leadership giving programs: the nationally recognized Alexis de Tocqueville Society for individuals giving $10,000 or more, and the Pacesetters for individuals donating $500 - $9,999. Both programs offer the convenience of giving through the payroll deduction plan or by credit card. (See insert for a complete list of leadership givers).

In addition to gifts of cash, contributions may also be made in the form of appreciated stocks, bonds, mutual funds, and real estate. To establish a lasting legacy, a gift may be included in a will or living trust. Donors may want to suggest United Way as a recipient of a memorial gift or to honor a loved one on a special occasion, such as a wedding, anniversary, or birthday. Gifts of life insurance are also welcomed.

Of course, the main reason for arranging a gift will be to strengthen the United Ways ability to support a wide range of community services. Please feel free to contact us should you or prospective contributors have any questions.

Employee Groups And New Companies Score Big!
United Way is supported by employees who give donations by payroll deduction while participating in employee group campaigns. We welcome the following new companies this year: Azura by Jewels, Jewels, Golden Eagle Financial, the deJongh Group, International Capital and Management, PriceSmart and UBS Financial. Employee gifts from the following companies increased by more than 50%: Banco Popular, Caneel Bay Resort, Caribbean Auto Mart, West Indian Company and Westin Resort. Employees at Sea Chest, with a staff of only 23, gave more than $6,000! As a result of payroll deduction gifts from employees at all Innovative Companies, a matching corporate gift of $25,000 will be received this year. See list of 55 new Pacesetters. We wish to thank all employees who gave!

Join Us On These Dates! New Tools Increase Contributions
Changes in business, industry and politics in recent years mean that fundraising now requires more help from skilled volunteers. We salute and thank volunteers who helped produce a DVD to boost our presentations to employee groups. Bob Austin, Moxie Marketing connected us with Lou Lambert of Lambert Media. Lambert produced a 4-minute DVD in record time! He also produced PSA’s aired on radio to increase awareness during the campaign. Thanks a million!

Congrats To Thyra!
