CHARLOTTE AMALIE, U.S. Virgin Islands, April 20th -- On Monday, April 20, 2009 Novo Nordisk presented the United Way of St. Thomas-St. John (UW) Board President, Moleto A. Smith, Jr. and Cherise Creque Quain, Executive Director, with a $35,000.00 check at their UW Nisky Center office. In addition, Novo Nordisk donated three Wii machines to United Way for distribution to its agencies. Margaret Walton, representing Novo Nordisk said, “Our company operates on a three tiered approach, 1. Economical, 2. Social, and 3. Environmental.”

On March 11, 2009 Novo Nordisk employees conducted various community service projects on St. Thomas, St. John and Water Island. Executive Director Creque Quain stated, “The combination of sweat equity and monetary contributions from companies, such as Novo Nordisk, that include this type of giving into their corporate culture sets the bar high for private and corporate citizens to get more involved in bettering the community in which they live, play and work.” Moleto A. Smith, Jr., Board President thanked Novo Nordisk on behalf of the United Way Board of Directors.

Every dollar raised by the United Way stays in the community to support the following agencies: American Red Cross, V.I. Council of Boy Scouts of America, Catholic Charities of the Virgin Islands, Civil Air Patrol, Dial-A-Ride St. John, Dial-A-Ride St. Thomas, Ebenezer Gardens, Habitat for Humanity of the Virgin Islands, Legal Services of the Virgin Islands, Lutheran Reformation Summer Program, St. Andrews Sunny Saints Summer Program, St. Thomas Reformed Church Summer Program, Savan Boys Club, V.I. Institute for Teaching and Learning, and the Yellow Cedar Group Home.
