Your United Way Helping to Build a Brighter Tomorrow The Virgin Islands Daily News, Tuesday, October 14th, 2008 By Nathan Clark In the brief time I have lived on St. Thomas, I have had the unique experience in getting involved with several different community organizations. While working for the Virgin Islands Council, Boy Scouts of America the opportunity to take part in the United Way of St. Thomas/St. John's Day of Caring has been a fulfilling part of my experience in the V.I. For the second year in a row the United Way - in collaboration with the Department of Human Services and many other community organizations and businesses - has been involved with Project Homeless Connect. A project that tells those in need, they are not alone in their struggle. It is inspiring to know that with a high cost of living expenses, failing markets and even all of our lives just a little busier today than yesterday, the United Way will take the lead in such a venerable undertaking. The Department of Human Services and the United Way of St. Thomas-St. John have put the U.S. Virgin Islands "in play" as a part of what is seemingly becoming a national movement, if not a global one. Today on the news we hear of the global economy and the promise of a better day. On Friday I will be joining the Scouts and volunteers of the Virgin Islands Council in providing service to Project Homeless Connect and in the hopes of making a day better for someone in need. - Nathan Clark is the senior district executive of the Virgin Islands Council, Boy Scouts of America. Care enough about your community to give. |
