Your United Way Helping to Build a Brighter Tomorrow PRESS RELEASE - May 4, 2007 UNITED WAY OF ST. THOMAS-ST. JOHN INVITES NON-PROFIT ORGANIZATIONS TO APPLY FOR MEMBERSHIP/FUNDINGCHARLOTTE AMALIE, U.S. Virgin Islands, May 4, 2007 The United Way of St. Thomas-St. John is now accepting applications from community non-profit organizations, which are interested in applying for agency membership and receiving funding. Currently, the United Way of St. Thomas-St. John financially supports 13 local non-profit agencies on St. Thomas and St. John. The following agencies receive funding from the United Way of St. Thomas-St. John: American Red Cross, V.I. Council of Boy Scouts of America, Catholic Charities of the Virgin Islands, Civil Air Patrol, Dial-A-Ride St. John, Dial-A-Ride St. Thomas, Ebenezer Gardens, Habitat for Humanity, Legal Services of the Virgin Islands, Lutheran Reformation Summer Program, St. Thomas Reformed Church Summer Program, V.I. Institute for Teaching and Learning, and the Yellow Cedar Group Home. To be eligible to apply, organizations must be a 501( c) 3 corporation, recognized by the Internal Revenue Service as a non-profit organization, must offer a solid human service program and must meet a compelling community need. Additionally, organizations must practice sound financial and program management and have a diverse, active volunteer leadership makeup. Organizations applying for membership must also agree to provide timely financial and program information to the United Way of St. Thomas-St. John. Applications may be picked up on St. Thomas at Nisky Center, Suite 220 or on St. John at Connections in Cruz Bay. The deadline for submittal of completed applications is May 31, 2007.
