Your United Way Helping to Build a Brighter Tomorrow PRESS RELEASE - October 30, 2003
COMMUNITY VOLUNTEERS ROLL UP THEIR SLEEVES
UNITED WAY HOLDS SIXTH ANNUAL DAY OF CARING St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands On Saturday, November 8, 2003, volunteers will celebrate the spirit of community service by participating in the United Way of St. Thomas-St. John annual Day of Caring. United Way’s Day of Caring was created six years ago to link people with group volunteer project opportunities. Last year, over 125 volunteers from throughout the community helped to paint, landscape and construct benches at the Roy L. Schneider Hospital. This year over 100 volunteers have signed up to work during a four-hour period to improve and beautify the Charlotte Amalie High School. Projects include painting corridors, steps, benches and designated areas. A comprehensive cleanup of the campus will take place, including cutting the grass, weeding, and taking away discarded furniture and other trash. A concrete block wall will be rebuilt and painted. Some landscaping will be done including replanting the CAHS letters at the school’s entrance. United Way is working in collaboration with local businesses and organizations to secure the necessary resources for the event. “United Way’s Day of Caring is a community-wide effort to let people see first-hand how a little caring can significantly change a life,” said Cornel Williams, president of the United Way. To learn more about the Day of Caring or to sign up as a volunteer, contact the United Way office at 774-3185. Care enough about your community to give. |
