FLORIDA CARIBBEAN CRUISE ASSOCIATION DONATES $5000 TO THE UNITED WAY
St. Thomas, VI - On Wednesday, September 26, 2002, Mickey Mouse will arrive on the cruise ship Disney Magic and present a $5000 check to the United Way of St. Thomas-St. John on behalf of the Florida Caribbean Cruise Association. The FCCA is the foundation giving-arm of the 14 member cruise lines. Assisting in the presentation will be Jim Urry, Disney Magic cruise director.
Over 100 students at the Emanuel Benjamin Oliver Elementary School will witness the presentation of the check and get an opportunity to meet and shake hands with Mickey Mouse.
Accepting the $5,000 donation will be Scott Barber, President of the United Way Susan Laura Lugo, 2002 Campaign Chair, and Thyra Hammond, United Way Executive Director.
The United Way’s 2002 campaign will kickoff on Saturday, September 29, 2001 at the Ritz Carlton. Lugo said, “With this generous donation from FCCA, the 2002 Campaign is off to an excellent start.”
The United Way supports the following 17 local, human service agencies: American Red Cross, V.I. Council of Boy Scouts of America, Carabana Ensemble Theater Company, Catholic Charities of the Virgin Islands, Civil Air Patrol, Downstreet People’s Youth in Action, Dial-A-Ride St. John, Dial-A-Ride St. Thomas, Ebenezer Gardens, Fair Haven Camp, Friends of Volunteers in Public Schools, Girl Scout Council, Legal Services of the Virgin Islands, Lutheran Reformation Summer Program, St. Thomas Reformed Church Summer Program, Shaky Acres, and Victim Advocate Program.
