Pledge Cards
An easy way to make your donation
When you make a donation you are asked to fill out a pledge card so that United Way can accurately track your donation and make sure you receive the proper recognition for your donation.
There are 4 basic cards: a Payroll Deduction card for private company employees, a Government Payroll Deduction card for government employees, a Pacesetter Donation card for all those who give $500 dollars or more, either directly or through payroll deduction, and a General Pledge card for those businesses and individuals who choose to donate directly to the United Way.
All of the forms are easy to fill out and include a stub or copy for you to record your donation for income tax deductions. The following is a guide to help complete the pledge card:
For Payroll Deduction cards:
1. Name of employee, name of the company/government department and the employee's number should be printed.
2. If the employee chooses to give through payroll deduction, the amount per pay period must be filled in and the employee must sign the pledge card (Note: deductions begin the first pay period in January and are continuous thereafter until employee requests differently. Total employee contributions made by the organization for each campaign are calculated on a calendar year.)
3. If the employee chooses to give a direct contribution, indicate cash or check and the amount.
4. If the employee gives $500 or more, either directly or through payroll deduction, he/she qualifies as a leadership giver in The Pacesetters. The Pacesetters pledge card must also be filled out.
Once the pledge card is correctly filled out, the donor receives a copy as his/her receipt and the remaining copies are attached to a master list and returned to the United Way Office.
For Pacesetters and General Pledge cards:
1. Name of donor, Company (if applicable), and complete address should be printed.
2. Indicate amount of donation, method of payment and payment schedule. You can pay all at once or on a quarterly, semi-annually or delayed basis. United Way will invoice you.
3. Sign and date the form and keep copy for your tax records. FINALLY, COMPLIMENT YOURSELF ON DOING SUCH A WONDERFUL THING FOR YOUR COMMUNITY!!
Join The Pacesetters
One unique feature of the United Way of St. Thomas-St. John is The Pacesetters, a group of concerned and committed donors who individually give $500 to $9,999 to the annual fundraising campaign. The Pacesetters group was founded during the 1991-1992 campaign as a way to involve the community’s leadership in the success of the United Way’s managed fundraising program.
Pacesetters may contribute to the United Way campaign through outright donations.
There are five levels of giving under The Pacesetters heading:
The Marathoner plateau provides an opportunity for individuals contributing $5,000 to $9,999 annually to exert their financial means and significant influence to improve the quality of life on St. Thomas and St. John.
The Miler plateau is a distinguished group of leaders whose annual personal commitments of $2,500 to $4,999 help position the United Way as a leader in addressing local human care needs.
The Half Miler plateau is a group of determined community leaders who are investing in our community with annual individual contributions of $1,500 to $2,499.
The Hurdler plateau includes individuals committed to making St. Thomas and St. John better places to live through annual personal gifts of $1,000 to $1,499.
The Sprinter plateau members are individuals committed to making a difference. They ensure that vital human services continue to grow by supporting United Way with annual gifts of $500 to $999.
Leadership donors are making a difference in this community by supporting the work of the United Way. To find out how you can become a Pacesetter, contact the United Way of St. Thomas-St. John at 774-3185.
